These pages are written for a buyer placing an order, agreeing a specification and checking a document from a long way outside the refinery. The seller knows the product, the buyer knows the project, and the gap between them is where most disputes begin.
The content is assembled from published standards and ordinary trade practice, to do two things: help you ask the right question before the cargo loads, and help you read a Certificate of Analysis critically once it arrives. Where a figure is a measured property, the method that produces it is named beside it; where it is not, the table below says what it is instead.
Not every number here is the same kind of number. This table sorts them by source and by how far each can be pushed.

Citing a designation names a document that exists in versions, and the version matters more than most buyers expect.
ASTM D946, EN 12591, IS 73, AASHTO M320 and GOST 22245 are all cited across this site, and none is a fixed text. A revision can tighten a limit, add or drop a property, change the method a property is measured by, or replace a grading system outright.
A page here describes an edition. The edition named in your contract, or adopted by the code your project is built under, governs — often not the newest published, because authorities adopt on their own timetable.
So anyone writing an acceptance criterion must verify the limit against the edition they hold, not against this site. Write the designation into the contract with its year.
Several pages give figures that are ordinary industry practice rather than requirements of any standard. They are labelled as such where they appear. This is why the label matters.
A limit and a practice figure look identical: both are numbers with units. But a limit has a published clause, a committee and an edition. A practice figure has custom and experience.
Written into a contract as a requirement, a practice figure creates an obligation with nothing behind it. When the parties disagree there is no clause to open and no issuing body to appeal to.
The concrete version: a clause saying the binder shall be mixed at 160 °C reads as precision. Then the mix design calls for 155 °C, the plant runs at 158 °C, and the cargo is non-conforming to a term nobody should have written.
Practice figures belong in the method statement and mix design, where the people watching the material can adjust them. Contract criteria should be measurable properties, each with a method and edition named.
Where a page suggests a grade for a climate or an application, it reasons towards a starting point. A design rests on inputs a website cannot see.

The arithmetic is exact. The output is only as good as the assumptions printed beside it.
A conversion between volume and mass rests on a density, and the density of bitumen falls as temperature rises. A figure taken at 25 °C and applied to material at 150 °C will not reconcile with a weighbridge. For custody transfer, what counts is the measurement your contract specifies.
Drums per container depends on drum dimensions, container dimensions, and the gross weight limit enforced on the road at destination — frequently the binding constraint rather than volume. Confirm the figure with your forwarder before booking.
Area multiplied by a rate produces a number. It knows nothing about the texture of the surface, how much the base absorbs, or the trial section that should set the rate.
None of these is a survey, a stow plan or a mix design. They exist so a buyer can size an enquiry and sanity check a supplier's figure.

The certificate is the strongest technical document in a transaction, and narrower than most buyers read it to be.
Read precisely, it certifies four things and no more: the batch that was sampled, on the date it was sampled, by the test method named against each line, as measured by the laboratory that signed it.
The pages on certificates, sampling and test methods give a checklist for reading one critically: whether values are measured or copied from the specification limits, and whether batch and date tie to your cargo. That checklist verifies no particular certificate. Where one is doubted, an independent laboratory testing a sealed retained sample settles it.
An error on a technical page is worth reporting: someone else is reading the same number.
